Spooky Sports Equinox

On Halloween, the stars have aligned for sports fans nationwide, its a Sports Equinox. For the fourth and final time of the year all four major US sports leagues, the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB will have games on the same day. Monday night football, MLB playoffs, and NBA and NHL regular season action will all take place marking the 29^th sports equinox and the second in October.

MLB Lockout

This year’s multiple equinoxes can be attributed to an MLB lockout this past offseason. The lockout did not end until March 10^th pushing back the start of the season a week and extending the playoffs later into October more than unusual giving us more opportunity to have multiple sports equinoxes in 2022.

The Astros come to Philadelphia having taken some momentum during a dominant game two performance. Jose Altuve got out of his slump and helped power the AL champions past Zach Wheeler the most dominant pitcher this postseason. How will the Phillies respond in game three? Joe Burrow leads a newly inspired Bengals passing attack into Cleveland Monday night. Home of Nick Chubb and a dominant line this should be an exciting contest. NBA Divisional matchups on both coasts add a bit of extra importance to a potentially benign Monday night slate in October. On the Ice interconference matchups between slow starters take place. It’s early in the season but these games could impact the draft order this offseason.

So today for Halloween leave a bowl of candy at your door, put a second tv in the living room, and celebrate the last sports equinox of the year like a true sports fan would.
