Rudolph’s Fairytale is becoming a reality. Steelers Mason Rudolph showed that all along he is the quarterback of the future for Pittsburgh.
For the past two years the Steelers offense has been terrible, the quarterback position has been a downhill spiral. However, Rudolph showed that since he was drafted he should’ve been the guy all along after yesterday’s performance.
Up & Down Career
Rudolph who was a star at Oklahoma State, was drafted by the Steelers as the 76th pick back in 2018. I believe since that day Rudolph should’ve be the replacement for whenever Ben Roethlisberger retires. However, getting some starts here and there, fans weren’t wowed by his play.
Rudolph has always been a very good quarterback that can get the job done, unfortunately he had Big Ben’s shadow lurking which isn’t helpful at times. Steeler nation has been spoiled since 2004, there will never be another Roethlisberger, so treating Rudolph as if he should isn’t fair.
Moments like Myles Garrett throwing a helmet at Rudolph in the middle of a game overshadowed his ability to fully be judged.
Numbers Don’t Lie
Numbers don’t lie and Rudolph’s numbers show that he can make a positive impact before yesterday’s performance. Rudolph back in 2019 set franchise records for Completions, Completion Percentage, and QB rating in first home career start. There are so many records that he set or tied with. Go check them out. However, taking Rudolph’s name out of the equation just looking at the stats, about half of the league would take the quarterback immediately.
The Steelers should make Rudolph the starter moving forward as well as possibly all of next year. The Steelers have all the talent at the core positions for really quarterback to succeed. However, Pickett and Trubisky have struggled majorly except Rudolph.
In a pivotal must-win game yesterday, Rudolph balled out and the Steelers offense finally opened up and played at a top 5 level. Rudolph threw for 293 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. By far, played the best out of all steelers qb’s all season.
With crucial games down the stretch, Steelers Mason Rudolph should ride the hot hand and see if they can get back into the playoffs. I believe he can and will get head coach Mike Tomlin his 17th straight winning season and save the day.
