The Pittsburgh Steelers and TJ Watt have agreed to a contract extension worth $112 million. This now makes Watt the highest paid defensive player in the league.
The specifics are (as reported by Ian Rapoport) 4 years, $112M, $80M guaranteed. Watt is one of the most impactful players in the NFL and now is being paid like it.
After an entire offseason of wondering on the part of Steelers Nation, this report comes as a relief. If Pittsburgh had lost Watt due to low-balling his contract that would have been devastating to a team that prides itself on defense. Now, the Steel City has its defensive anchor for the foreseeable future.
