Stetson Bennett, former Georgia Bulldog quarterback, was arrested in Dallas, Texas at 6:00 am on Sunday for public intoxication, per WFAA.

Police informed WFAA on the situation, stating they responded to calls on about a man banging on doors. Though unsure if that was Bennett’s doing, police arrived on the scene and deemed Bennett was intoxicated. Bennett was taken to a city detention center shortly after his arrest.

With a bit of an underdog story, Bennett, 25, has a story that catches the eyes and ears of many football fans.

Bennett began his career as a walk-on at Georgia University in 2017. He then transferred to Jones County Junior College for the 2018 season. Following the departure of Justin Fields, who transferred to Ohio State, Bennett returned to Georgia on a scholarship to retain the backup position. After starting quarterback JT Daniels went down with injury to begin the 2021 season, Bennett was handed the starting role. Since then, Bennett and the Bulldogs won back-to-back national championships, in which he amassed 6,989 passing yards and 56 touchdowns to just 14 interceptions. He was also a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy award, given to college football’s most outstanding player.

Slated to hear his name called in the draft among top quarterbacks such as Bryce Young, Will Levis, and C.J. Stroud, Bennett’s run-in with the law may have caused him to get picked later than anticipated.
