The outlook on the T.J. Watt injury could be brighter than originally thought. On Tuesday afternoon ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that the Pittsburgh edge rusher “…is expected to miss about six weeks, per source.” The full tweet is below.
This is welcomed news after initial speculation was something much more significant. The timetable for a fully torn pectoral muscle can reach season-ending. That sort of injury would have significantly hurt Pittsburgh’s chances at a playoff run.
The six-week timetable would mean Watt could return to the team in their Week 8 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. But of course this is just an approximate date. Week 10 against the New Orleans Saints could also be a target after the bye week.
I would not have believed an outcome where Watt could miss single digit games on Sunday after the injury occurred. The Steelers organization and their fans have to be happy with the latest reports.
T.J. Watt sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of Pittsburgh’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, September 11th.
