Sunday March 19th in Miami, we will see Team USA vs Team Cuba in the semi-finals of the World Baseball Classic. These two teams have both managed to beat their pools and advance through the quarter-finals. Team USA has been dominant as expected, dropping only one game in the tournament to Team Mexico. Team Cuba has advanced to the semi-finals after the entirety of Pool A finished with a record of 2-2, and after beating Team Australia in the quarter-finals.
The starting pitcher for Team Cuba tonight will be Roenis Elías. Elías has been solid in his few appearances for Team Cuba, putting up a 2.57 ERA with three strikeouts. Roenis Elías will face off against Team USA’s veteran starter Adam Wainwright. Wainwright looked very good in his start against Great Britain after going four innings with one earned run and four strikeouts.
Team USA Led by Clutch Grand Slam from Trea Turner
An electric win from Team USA lat night over Team Venezuela has launched them into the semi-finals. This win is mostly thanks to a clutch grand slam from shortstop Trea Turner to give USA the lead in the eighth inning. In a post game interview with Ken Rosenthal, Turner explained the importance of this home run and how it ranks out of all his home runs. Turner went on by calling it the “number one” home run in his career.
Team USA’s lineup is absolutely stacked. With the top of the order consisting of Mookie Betts, Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, and Nolan Arenado, there is almost no room to breathe if you’re facing them. After looking at a lineup like this, it’s no wonder Team USA has made it this far and is looking to win the whole tournament.
Team USA vs Team Cuba is set to be action packed, as these two teams are full of passion for their country. Tonight’s game will be broadcasted on FS1 at 7pm EST.
