The Washington Commanders have signed star wide receiver Terry McLaurin to a 3 year, $71 million extension, per Adam Schefter. The deal includes a $28 million signing bonus, a record for the receiver position. Over 76% of the extension is guaranteed according to Schefter. This extension puts Terry McLaurin in the top five of average annual salaries for the wide receiver position in the NFL. Terry McLaurin will now be in Washington through the 2025 season.
This is a huge win for the Commanders. The deal, as well as the timing, makes sense for both sides for many reasons. McLaurin will get another crack at signing another extension before he turns 30. Washington will also get to evaluate the position in the coming seasons with receiver Curtis Samuel returning from injury and the addition of rookie Jahan Dotson. Washington needed to get this deal done with McLaurin, especially before training camp, and they did that. They also needed it to get done to distract us from the Oversight Committee hearings and Dan’s refusal to accept their subpoena. But for now, let’s just enjoy the moment and be happy that the team didn’t screw this up and that we have Scary Terry back.
Now, we shift our focus to training camp.
