Texas and Oklahoma may meet again in ’23 Big 12 Championship

The Red River Rivalry meets or exceeds expectations more than not. This year wasn’t any different as both teams came in ranked and played like it was a championship game. The Oklahoma Sooners edged out the Texas Longhorns to stay undefeated and give the Longhorns their first loss. After their back-and-forth fight both are still in playoff contention and may meet again. Thats right, Texas and Oklahoma round Two may be in the making in the Big 12 Championship if they both win out.

Chances of a Round Two

Oklahoma has a very favorable schedule to win out their remaining schedule. Their toughest test left is a ranked Kansas team. Kansas has been a sleeper team that has quietly had a good year. To beat the Jayhawks the Sooners will need to shut down running back Devin Neal. Neal has been the backbone of the Kansas offense this year and has only been slowed down by Texas. In that game he only ran for 45 yards and no touchdowns and suffered the only loss against the Longhorns.

Texas doesn’t have any big game competition left on their schedule, so they are definitely in line to reach the Big 12 championship. They have been through a couple of wars so far with their biggest win being over Alabama. Unless they drop concentration and overlook a remaining team there shouldn’t be any upsets happening this season.

Texas and Oklahoma Rematch Pick

The Texas Longhorns is my pick to win the rematch with the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas has been battle tested this season with wins over ranked Alabama and Kansas teams. Even though the Sooners won the first it’s a tough assignment to beat this Texas team twice. The game will come down to a shootout and which defense can get a stop when needed. Either way if it is as good as the first game this year, we will be in for a great game.
