The Vancouver Canucks are going through many changes right now, with the recent trading of their captain, Bo Horvat, in exchange for New York Islanders Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a 1st round pick. There are rumors that Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko is likely to be traded.
Demko’s Stats
Due to a lower-body injury back in December, Demko has missed out on a lot. With him gone, the Canucks were starting to plan what they might have to do to get a better future for the Vancouver team. And that is a team without Demko. In his 15 games this season, the 27-year-old has a record of 3-10-2. Averaging with a save percentage of .883.
Demko Doesn’t Want To Stay in Vancouver
There have been rumors from the Canucks that Demko doesn’t even want to stay in Vancouver. Canucks insider Farhan Lalji said a few words about this.
“Does Demko want to be here? I’ve heard from people around that are close to it that Demko doesn’t want to be here,” said Lalji. There’s conversation in the background that Demko isn’t enamored with the market, the scrutiny, the organization. Pick it, it’s all of it,”
It may not be best for the Canucks to get rid of Demko at this time, considering there are also speculations about Luke Schenn and Brock Boeser rumored to be traded as well.
So What Will Happen To Demko
There are still four and a half weeks until the March third trade deadline. So there is still time for the Canucks GM Patrik Allvin to decide what will happen to the goaltender. Because of his health, it’s unsure where things are at now.
After this season, Demko’s contract expires with three years left and a cap hit of $5 million. Some teams that have their eyes on Demko are the Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
