The Chargers defeated the Raiders 28-14, to move to 3-1, on Monday Night Football. Justin Herbert was the star of the game, as he threw for 222 yards and three touchdowns. Austin Ekeler also had a big game, recording 145 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers recorded four sacks throughout the game, putting pressure on Derek Carr for most of the game.
Derek Carr threw for 196 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Darren Waller had 50 receiving yards and a touchdown. Henry Ruggs had 60 receiving yards. Their defense recorded two sacks on Justin Herbert, throughout the game.
The Raiders Offensive Struggles
The Raiders struggled in the first half, only gaining one 1st down in the half. Darren Waller caught a pass from Derek Carr to convert the first down, only to receive a questionable 15 yard penalty for taunting. The Raiders ended the first half with six penalties for 53 yards. They came out strong in the second half, with Derek Carr throwing two touchdowns in the third quarter. The Raiders’ defensive line came alive, with Darius Philon sacking Justin Herbert just after the Chargers converted on 4th down. The Raiders got the ball back, only to have Christian Covington sack Derek Carr. Daniel Carlson missed a kick for three points, after the sack.
Sealing The Game
The Chargers sealed the game late in the fourth quarter, after Derwin James intercepted a deep shot down the field by Derek Carr. They got the ball back and drove down to midfield. The Chargers ran a fake field goal and punted the ball, to pin the Raiders down around the 10 yard line. The Raiders were unable to get anything going on offense, punting the ball away to the Chargers. The Chargers ran out the clock, as they and the Raiders both moved to 3-1.
