Theo Epstein

One of the key figures in helping the Red Sox break the “Curse of the Bambino” is returning to Boston. The Red Sox announced Friday Theo Epstein has purchased an ownership stake in Fenway Sports Group. Epstein will serve as a minority owner and a senior advisor to the Red Sox. It’s the first time Epstein has been a part of the organization since 2011.

Epstein served as Red Sox General Manager from 2002 to 2011. He was integral in building the 2004 and 2007 World Series Championship teams in Boston. Epstein left Boston following the Red Sox epic collapse in September 2011. Theo Epstein was only 28 years old when he was hired as General Manager.

Following his stint with the Red Sox, Epstein served as President of the Chicago Cubs from 2012 to 2020. Once again, he was integral in ending a baseball curse as he helped build the 2016 World Series Championship team. After stepping down as Cubs’ President, he served as an advisor to MLB. Epstein helped tackle pace of play issues and rule changes.

Fenway Sports Group is involved in more than just baseball. The Group owns Liverpool FC of the Premier League, the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL and co-owns RFK Racing of NASCAR. Fenway Sports Group also invests in the PGA Tour.
