Three Over Performing NBA Teams

The NBA season is underway. Just like every year, we have seen teams out to surprising starts. There have been multiple teams in the NBA that have been overperforming so far this season.

Utah Jazz

The Utah Jazz surprised everyone last year when they decided to blow it up. They traded stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert in the offseason. Many expected them to be one of the worst teams in basketball this year. They currently have a record of 7-3, sitting at 2nd in the western conference. The Jazz do not have any star players, they play very unselfish and give effort on defense. Many thought this team would be the worst in the league and in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes. Utah looks like a team that could make the playoffs and give teams trouble the rest of the season.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs were another team that looked like they were going to be into the Wembanyama sweepstakes. The Spurs have a record of 5-5, they started 5-2, and are currently on a three game losing streak. They are 9th in the western conference. San Antonio head coach Greg Popovich told people not to bet on the Spurs this season. However, their play has been well above expected considering many believed the Jazz and the Spurs would be fighting for the bottom spot this year. Keldon Johnson has looked very good so far, leading the Spurs in scoring. They have a bottom 10 offensive and defensive ratings. The Spurs have been trending in the wrong direction and will likely continue that way.

Portland Trail Blazers

The Blazers are sitting at a record of 6-3. They were expected to be better than last year, but the bench depth was questionable. Head coach Chauncey Billups has trusted his bench and they have exceeded expectations so far. Even with all-star point guard Damian Lillard’s injury, the Blazers have still been playing well. Their defense has surprisingly been the strength of their team, having the 11th best defensive rating in the NBA. The trade to acquire Jerami Grant, the power forward the Blazers have been missing for years, has been a home run. The Blazers have a chance to make some noise in the playoffs this year.
