Senior Bowl

The National Team defeated the American Team 16-7 in the 2024 Senior Bowl game. The game capped off a week-long job interview for several of the 2024 NFL Draft’s top senior prospects.

Here are three takeaways from the 75th annual all-star contest.

1. Unimpressive Day From The Quarterbacks

Overall, both offenses struggled mightily for most of the game. But in the first quarter, Spencer Rattler opened the Senior Bowl with an impressive 29-yard throw to former Georgia receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint. Unquestionably, he had the best day of all the signal-callers, earning MVP honors.

Next up to take the field was Bo Nix. On his first play, they ran a flee flicker and let Nix throw deep. He lofted a beautiful 60-yard ball that was dropped by former Tarheels receiver Tez Walker. Later, Nix found the endzone thanks to a nice two-yard grab by former Minnesota tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford.

Conversely, former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman struggled in his limited reps. He was intercepted by former Louisville standout CB Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and finished 2-for-10 passing for 21 yards with 1 interception at the half.

Similarly, Joe Milton didn’t help himself after a terrible Senior Bowl performance. The former Vols signal-caller was picked off by former Oregon safety Evan Williams in the end zone on his first drive. With minutes left in the contest, Milton was under center with a chance to win the game. However, his deep ball down the right sideline was picked off by WSU DB Chau Smith-Wade, who made the diving catch and an 80-yard return to the one-yard line. Milton has been largely unimpressive this week with multiple decision-making errors, ball placement issues and overthrows.

2. Chau Smith-Wade Shines On Defense

Despite a great performance, Smith-Wade was snubbed of the MVP award. He made his mark on the game with two picks including a game-sealing interception that was nearly returned for an 80-yard score. Previously, Smith-Wade was seen as a day-three prospect, but his draft stock is sure to rise after this week. Overall, he looked great in his one-on-ones and had the most impressive showing in the Senior Bowl game.

Missouri RB Cody Schrader Looked The Part

Cody Schrader has been on my radar for a while but definitely boosted his stock after this game. The 5’9, 215-pound RB was first-team All-SEC after rushing for over 1600 yards in 2023. Also, he showed his value as a pass catcher in the Senior Bowl with four receptions for 45 yards. Undoubtedly, Schrader will be a steal for any team that can get him day three of the draft.
