Aleksej Pokusevski

The tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder has come to an end for Aleksej Pokusevski with the Oklahoma City Thunder has come to an end four years after they selected him in the first round. The Thunder announced the news early Friday Morning.

Pokusevski was originally selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves but was involved in a three-team trade where his draft rights were sent to the Thunder. The trade turned out well for all three times, Minnesota had acquired Jaden McDaniels and the Knicks acquired Immanuel Quickley.

Aleksej Pokusevski has had less of an impact for the Thunder than the other two have for their respective teams. However, many teams will likely give him a shot considering he’s still young. The depth on the Thunder’s roster has become astonishing, which has caused some issues for Mark Dagineault to find time for everyone. A good problem for a coach to have, but unfortunately for Pokusevski he has seen his name fall on that depth chart.

He appeared in a total of 10 games, with only three appearances in garbage time since Dec. 14. If a team can offer Pokusevski consistent minutes there is enough upside to think that he could at least be a solid contributor coming off an NBA bench moving forward. His age is what makes him the most attractive. At 22 years old, he has provided the Thunder with at least 7 points and 4.5 rebounds in each of the past three seasons.

A few teams that come to mind that could go after Pokusevski are the Portland Trail Blazers, the Charlotte Hornets and the Detroit Pistons. All three teams are in a rebuild and could afford to give him the consistent minutes he needs.
