Tiger Woods confirmed Monday that he is parting ways with Nike after 27 years. Woods announced the news on social media.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods said in a statement. “The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever. Phill Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way.”
“People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter. See you in LA!”
Tiger Woods has been with Nike since he turned pro at 20 years old. The partnership was one of the most lucrative endorsement deals in all sports, as Nike paid Woods over $500 million in total.
Nike Thanks Tiger Woods
Nike also released a statement on social media thanking Woods for his time with the brand.
“Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, the old school way of thinking,” Nike said in its Instagram post. “You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself. And for that challenge we’re grateful.”
Before Tiger Woods’ announcement, there was plenty of speculation on whether he and Nike were heading towards a split. Woods’ latest deal with the brand expired at the end of 2023.
Woods has won 15 majors during his PGA Tour career. He hopes to continue competing on the tour, saying in November that his goal would be to play one tournament per month in 2024. He is likely to tee it up next at the Genesis Invitational, a PGA Tour event hosted by Woods in February.
