The New Jersey Devils have already exceeded expectations this year. No matter how the Devils finish off their 2022-23 campaign they have already shocked the hockey world.

The boys in red are carrying 68 points in 49 games, posting a 32-13-4 record. The Devils ended last season with 63 total points, therefore heading into the All-Star break they already have more points than they did all of last season.

Many can argue that the Devils are good where they are right now but with years of losing in the rearview and an exciting future on the horizon, fans are showing no mercy and are faithful that the Devils’ front office will be active in the coming months.

With the NHL trade deadline approaching, two elite players have been linked to New Jersey. Sharks Right Wing, Timo Meier and Canucks Right Wing, Brock Boeser.

Timo Meier has posted 48 points in 51 games played with the Sharks this season and the boys from San Jose are floundering toward the bottom of the standings right now.

While being five rows above the last spot in the NHL, Meier is second in Sharks points heading into the All-Star break. The lone player in front of him on the stat sheet is a 14th-year defenseman, Erik Karlsson.

Say Devils General Manager, Tom Fitzgerald was to pull off another blockbuster trade. Meier would be reunited with Devils captain Nico Hischier. Back in 2021, Hischier and Meier were teammates on Team Switzerland at the 2021 IIHF World Championships in Latvia where each player put up six points in eight games.

Transitioning into the next trade but staying out west, the Devils are also in talks with Vancouver Canucks Right Wing, Boeser.

The Minnesota native has 30 points in 41 games thus far and is currently 6th in overall points for Vancouver.

Boeser is currently on pace for 50 points to close out the season, assuming the 20-26-3 Canucks do not make the postseason.

Whether the Devils pursue Meier or Boeser, each player will expand the skill set in New Jersey. The Jack Hughes, Hischier, Jesper Bratt and Meier/Boeser roster would scare opponents entering hell in Newark.
