Former NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Champion Crew Chief Todd Gordon is returning to NASCAR to work with Jimmie Johnson. Legacy Motor Club announced Monday that Gordon will serve as Johnson’s crew chief for his part time schedule in the number 84 car in 2023. Gordon won the 2018 Cup championship with Joey Logano. He last served as crew chief for Ryan Blaney, guiding him to three wins in 2021.

The team issued a release featuring a quote from Todd Gordon saying he is “looking forward to working with another champion that still has the desire to compete and win at the highest level.” Gordon worked as a radio commentator for the Motor Racing Network in 2022.

LEGACY MOTOR CLUB

Legacy Motor Club is the joint venture between Jimmie Johnson and Richard Petty. Johnson bought in as a part owner over the offseason after announcing his retirement from full time racing. Johnson will still race part time in a variety of series including NASCAR, IMSA and Indycar. Legacy is a continuation of Richard Petty Motorsports and has a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing.

While Johnson will be driving part time in the 84 car, Legacy Motor Club will feature two full time drivers in the Cup Series. Erik Jones will continue to drive the iconic number 43 made famous by Richard Petty. Noah Gragson will drive the number 42 and compete for Rookie of the Year honors. All three will attempt to make the Daytona 500 in February.
