The 2022 Campaign has seen many top rookies make their MLB debuts including the likes of Julio Rodriguez, Jeremy Pena, Adley Rutschman, Joe Ryan

How do you qualify to be a rookie in the MLB?

To be considered a rookie in the MLB you need to have under 130 at-bats or less than 50 innings pitched. Also, a player would need to be on an active roster for less than 45 days.

Top 5 AL Rookie Stats

Julio Rodriguez is the center fielder for the Seattle Mariners. He is 21 years old. Julio has an average of .272, 23 homers, 67 RBIs, and an OPS of .810. The Mariners have a record of 77-60.

Bobby Witt Jr plays 3rd base for the Kansas City Royal. Witt Jr is 22 years old. He has an average of .248, 20 home runs, 70 RBIs, and an OPS of .733. The Kansas City Royals have a record of 55-81.

Adley Rutschman is the catcher for the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles have a record of 71-64. Rutschman is 24 years old and was not on the opening day roster due to a tricep strain. However, he still has an average of .257, 10 home runs, 32 RBIs, and an OPs of .818.

Jeremy Pena is a shortstop for the Houston Astros. The Astros are leading the AL West with a record of 87-48. Pena is 24 and has an average of .248, 16 home runs, 46 RBIs, and an OPS of .690.

Joe Ryan is a 26-year-old pitcher for the Minnesota Twins. Ryan has 10 wins and 7 losses, an ERA of 3.88, 121 strikeouts, and a WHIP of 1.14.

All rookies have been having a great and fun season to watch. Julio Rodriguez is favored to win right now. At 21 years old, he has already played in his first All-Star game. Rodriguez participated in the home run derby, where he hit 81 home runs, taking second in the derby in total. This season he joined the 20/20 club. Passing Mike Trout by 5 days and becoming the fastest American League player to reach this achievement. Julio is joined by 5 other players. The 20/20 club means a player has 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in their rookie season. Royals rookie Bobby Witt Jr joined this club only 4 days ago. Rodriguez helped the Mariners go on a 14-game win streak earlier this season. Julio is helping the Mariners end their 20-year playoff drought. As they will most likely secure an AL wild-card spot. He recently signed a 12-year contract with the Mariners. All of these rookies are having fantastic seasons, but the Mariners rookie is favored to win with less than a month left.
