Week 9 was one of the craziest weekends in college football we’ve seen all year, with tons of unexpected losses for a lot of ranked squads while the top five teams in the AP Poll remained unbeaten. Things are heating up here as we inch closer to the bowl season and we’ll have another loaded weekend of ranked matchups ahead. Here are the top 5 college football matchups for week 10.
5. No. 12 Missouri (7-1) at No. 2 Georgia (8-0)
When: Saturday, 7:30 pm ET
Where: Sanford Stadium, Athens, GA
Where to watch: CBS
Spread: Georgia (-15)
One of the best SEC matchups of Week 10 features the top two teams in the East division. The Bulldogs are coming off a 43-20 routing over Florida, and truly haven’t been tested yet besides their road game at Auburn. But now their real schedule begins, as the Dawgs will be facing Missouri, Ole Miss, and Tennessee in consecutive weeks. So could the Wildcats give Georgia another scare? I’m not very confident. The Dawgs have been unbelievable at home and are riding a 23-game win streak in Sanford Stadium.
4. No. 23 Kansas State (6-2) at No. 7 Texas (7-1)
When: Saturday, 12:00 pm ET
Where: DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX
Where to watch: FOX
Spread: Texas (-4)
After Oklahoma’s shocking loss to the Kansas Jayhawks, these week 10 matchups in the Big 12 got a lot more interesting. This leaves Texas the opportunity to take control of the conference after losing quarterback Quinn Ewers to injury. But with all the attention on the Sooners and Longhorns, other squads like Kansas State and Oklahoma State have quietly emerged as contenders with 4-1 records in conference play. The Wildcats will be looking to shock the world behind their strong defense and a two-quarterback approach on offense. Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy had a rocky debut last week against BYU and will have to take better care of the football for the Longhorns to avoid an upset at home.
3. No. 9 Oklahoma (7-1) at No. 22 OK State (6-2)
When: Saturday, 3:30 pm ET
Where: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Where to watch: ABC
Spread: Oklahoma (-6)
The Sooners and Cowboys will face off in what could be the final game of the Bedlum Series for the foreseeable future. With the Sooners heading for the SEC, we don’t know if or when this series will be renewed. So we’ll have to enjoy this game for what it is, the final game of one of the longest annual rivalries in American sports. The game doesn’t only have historical importance, there is a lot on the line as both teams battle for the top of the BIG 12. Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is 3-15 all-time against the Sooners, but should have a great chance to pull off an upset this Saturday.
2. No. 5 Washington (8-0) at No. 20 USC (7-2)
When: Saturday, 7:30 pm ET
Where: LA Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA
Where to watch: ABC
Spread: Washington (-3)
The Huskies will look to remain unbeaten on the road as they travel to Los Angeles. The Trojans have been on the ropes fighting for survival thanks to a terrible defense that just allowed 49 points to California. But I don’t want to be too quick to count out USC, because they haven’t been the only defense struggling as of late. Washington just surrendered 33 points to a bad Stanford team and will need a more complete performance to escape The Coliseum undefeated.
1. No. 14 LSU (6-2) at No. 8 Alabama (7-1)
When: Saturday, 7:45 pm ET
Where: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL
Where to watch: CBS
Spread: Alabama (-3)
The top matchup of week 10 goes to what I would call the best rivalry in college football for the past 15 years. Whenever these teams face off, one or both are competing for a national championship, and that theme continues this year. This game will feature the number one offense in the nation against one of the best defenses in the nation. But for as good as LSU’s offense is, I don’t see them pulling off the upset. Alabama has made other high-powered offenses like Ole Miss and Tennessee look below-average. And like Georgia, this is just a different team at home.
Honorable Mentions:
No. 15 Notre Dame (6-2) at Clemson (4-4)
No. 16 Oregon State (6-2) at Colorado (4-4)
Texas A&M (5-3) at No. 10 Ole Miss (7-1)
