For the history of the NFL the philosophy has been that defenses win championships. Though I don’t fully disagree with it the league has evolved over the last few decades. It was a run first, grinding in the trenches slugfest that overtime has become more of a high flying, deep passes and high scores game. Yet the best of the best are the ones who can run or pass as they want and dare you to stop them. So why not take a look at them week to week and rank the top NFL offenses. The rankings will change based on how effective the offense will be against their opponents defense that week. With that being said let’s get into the rankings.
5. Detroit Lions
I’m with you, I can’t believe I am putting the Lions on a top offense list. I knew they was going to be better after the off-season. The Lions and Jets had maybe the best off-seasons I’ve ever seen. Still I was tentative about putting them in the top five. With an average of 405 yards per game so far and already getting themselves a win this season, they have earned this spot so far. They take the field against the Minnesota Vikings in week three and as long as the offensive line can keep Jared Goff standing then I believe they will rack up offensive yards and come out 2-1. That will be a challenge this week though as the Vikings are tied for fourth with 7 sacks so far. If the Lions keep up one of the best NFL offenses this year it will be a storied season.
4. Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles fans have a lot to look forward too as their Eagles are not only one of the best teams in the league right now, but they are also a very young team so they have a lot of growth left. They are leading the league in total offensive yards this season with 470 yards per game. Even though they are a run first type of team racking up almost 190 yards per game, Jalen Hurts has matured into a great starting quarterback with plenty of weapons at his disposal. This week they will be playing the Washington Commanders and I see them having a high scoring game while picking up a ton of yards.
3. Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs is always a dangerous offensive team with Patrick Mahomes under center. They are still loaded at wide receiver even after Tyreek Hill went to the Dolphins. Mahomes, also known as a magician passing the football, is one of the most exciting quarterbacks to watch. So far this season they are registering 403 yards per game and are off to a great start to make a deep playoff run again. Last week the Chiefs topped a very good Chargers team. The Colts are their opponents this week and the Chiefs’ shouldn’t have any trouble.
2. Miami Dolphins
We all knew the Dolphins was stacked with talent starting the season. Our only worry with this team as a whole was at quarterback. Tua Tagovailoa had shown some promising moments but was inconsistent last year. So nobody knew if this would be his breakout year or his last season as starter. We did know one thing though, with the talent around him on this team, one of those scenarios would happen. To Dolphins fans delight Tua has been balling out so far and this Miami team looks like they might have something special here. They top league in passing yards so far and are second in total yards per game. This week will be a true test for them as they play the Bills. Buffalo is second in defensive yards allowed so far and a dangerous offensive team as well. I may be crazy for putting Miami this high knowing who they play this week but I could definitely see this turn into a shootout.
1. Buffalo Bills
Buffalo has proven that they are the team to beat so far. They have the third most yards on offense per game and are also second on defense in yards allowed. Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs looks to be unstoppable as they have put on a show each game. Bills Mafia has l bunch to cheer for as this looks to be the best team in the league and it doesn’t look close right now. The bills dominated the defending champions in the Rams in their first game. Then last week they put on a show beating the Titans 41-7. This week will be their biggest test so far as they play the Dolphins. Both of these NFL offenses are red hot right now and look to be locks for the post season if they keep this up. I look forward to watching this one as its the biggest game of the week. Who knows which team if either will drop in the offensive rankings next week but this should be a high scoring game.
These are the top ranked NFL offenses after two weeks of football. Their is many others that just missed the list. We will have a new ranking up each week to see who is the top offenses. I look forward to watching how these matchups play out and will have a new list up afterwards.
