The Norwegian striker can’t be stopped at the moment. Whether it be in the league or the Champions League. At this point, it’s a guarantee that he’ll score at least once every time he plays.
On Saturday, Man City beat Southampton 4-0 at the Etihad. In the 65th minute, Haaland connected with a low-driven cross from Joao Cancelo to net the fourth goal. In the post-match press conference, Pep Guardiola said, “I am so upset with Erling Haaland, he didn’t score three goals! The petition to sack him from the PL won’t happen!”
Pep is being tongue in cheek here, but the levels that his striker has set are staggering. The day that he doesn’t score will be a day worth celebrating for the rest of the league.
Vini Jr
He’s well and truly taken his game to the next level. This season, his output has been better and he’s stepping up without his partner in crime, Benzema. Last season, a big criticism of the youngster was that he failed to step up in the absence of Benzema. He has put those allegations to bed and has continued to mature at an immaculate rate.
With improvement, comes more pressure, expectations, and hatred. He has blocked out the noise and continued to improve as a player and as a man and he’s now reaping the rewards of his sacrifice and hard work.
Kevin De Bruyne
The Belgian is having a really impressive season. Though his goals have dried up, his assists have been unmatched. He also surpassed David Silva as Man City’s all-time assist provider.
He and Haaland can cause havoc for any team in Europe on their day.
Joao Cancelo
He’s more than a fullback. He’s always an offensive outlet and has the skills of a winger. His goal against Southampton symbolized his technical ability and football IQ.
His career has been on an upward trajectory since joining Man City and it’ll be interesting to see how he performs at the World Cup.
Jamal Musiala
The youngster is finally getting the respect and plaudits he deserves. He’s definitely one to watch out for at the World Cup and throughout the UCL campaign.
