The Triston Casas Era is Upon Us in Boston.
With September 1 bringing the expansion of rosters up to 40 active players for each team in the MLB, it may mean the call up of some top prospects. The most notable Red Sox Prospect is Triston Casas. Casas was drafted in the first round by the Red Sox in 2018, and has proved himself to be one of the best prospects in baseball. Ranked 2nd in the Red Sox system and 26th in all MLB Prospects, Casas is due to be called up any day now to the big leagues.
Casas is red hot after returning from an ankle injury in May. He slashed .333/.460/.533 in the month of August in Worcester, and with a home run on September 1, many are wondering if the debut of Triston Casas is closer than we all think.
In a tweet from Ken Laird below, Alex Cora spoke about the possibility of Triston Casas being called up in September.
There has been a big question mark at first base for 2 years now regarding who will finally be the starting first baseman for the Red Sox. Bobby Dalbec and Franchy Cordero have both been candidates for the role. Unfortunately, both have scuffled at the plate and have been a defensive liability all season.
The trade deadline this year brought former World Series champion Eric Hosmer. However, Hosmer has been placed on the 10-day injured list for back inflammation. Casas seems to be the answer for this obvious issue at first base for the Red Sox. It’s just a matter of time before we see him get the call-up from Worcester.
Connor Wong Collects First Big League Home Run.
For now, we have seen the call-up of catcher Connor Wong and right-handed reliever Eduard Bazardo. Wong, who homered in 9 times in 16 games in Worcester in August, went deep over the Green Monster last night for his first major league home run. Red Sox went on to win the game against the Texas Rangers 9-1.
Bright Future Ahead?
Is this the beginning of something special in Boston? The Red Sox farm system is looking more promising every day. With Connor Wong already making a splash, many are excited to see what these prospects can bring to the table.
