On Monday, the Houston Texans announced that Tyrod Taylor would be the starting quarterback when Houston takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Quarterback Deshaun Watson will be on the 53 man roster but is expected to be a healthy scratch on game days.
Watson asked to be traded back in January. With 22 civil lawsuits for allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior, it will be hard for the Texans to find a trade partner. Watson has not been restricted from team activities but is not expected to play this year.
Tyrod Taylor signed with the Texans in March. Before joining Houston, Taylor spent two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers. The quarterback started the season opener for the Chargers but missed the following week when Chargers team doctors accidentally punctured his lung while giving him a pain-killing injection before kickoff.
Buffalo Bills
In Taylor’s last starting job back in 2017 with the Buffalo Bills, he led the Bills to the playoffs. Taylor threw for 2,799 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He also rushed for 427 yards and four touchdowns.
In 2015 while playing with the Bills. Taylor made his first and only Pro Bowl by throwing for 3,035 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Taylor also rushed 568 yards and six touchdowns. In three seasons with the Bills, Taylor passed for 8,857 yards.
Taylor is a dual-threat quarterback who takes care of the ball; he won’t turn the ball over a lot, which will be critical for a rebuilding team like Houston. Taylor will do his best to get the Texans going in the right direction. This could be Taylor’s last chance at a starting position look for him to make the most of his opportunity.
The 10-year veteran has passed for 9,770 yards, 54 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions and rushed for 1,850 yards and 16 touchdowns in 72 games.
