USA vs Spain

10:40 p.m. — The starters for each team…

First Quarter

Early on, the United States is looking a lot better than they have been playing in the first games. The USA is playing with tempo and has been in control since the tip. With 3:30 left in the quarter, United States is up 14-10. Kevin Durant at the line for three free throws. Devin Booker will be substituted by Khris Middleton. KD makes all three free throws. Ricky Rubio will make the long three, to bring it within two. Draymond Green with a steal and he will lay it up and in. There is a timeout with 2 minutes left in the quarter… US leads 19-17. Spain will end the quarter on an 11-2 run to lead 21-19 at the end of the first quarter. They are being led by Ricky Rubio.


Second Quarter

The quarter-final USA vs Spain – Spain is up by 2 with 6:09 left to play in the half. Early in the second half, the United States has lost the mojo and can not make threes. Spain’s Victor Claver tries to get a foul called on KD, but rather it is called a blocking foul on Claver. Spain leads 39-33, with 2:37 left to play in the first half. Damian Lillard showing the voodoo that he does for the Portland Trail Blazers, he makes the bucket and gets the and-1. Now 41-36.

Although, The Americans have struggled here in the second half… it is still early in the ball game. Some great work by Lillard and KD to bring the US back into the game right before the half. USA is on a 12-4 run. IT IS ALL TIED AT HALF!



The United States is coming out of the locker room with more intensity and more communication. Team USA has come out firing from beyond the arc. Making their shots. USA now leading Spain 58-49 with just over 5 minutes to play. Kevin Durant is taking over here in the quarter. Although, starting to struggle a little Team USA is still up ahead with 56 seconds left.

End of the quarter: 69-63 Team USA with the lead.


Damian Lillard is coming out with a sense of urgency with Dame Time. Five quick points for him. With 7:13 left in the game… USA lead 77-66. Now just under 5 minutes left, both Ricky Rubio and KD are back in for their teams. This game has gone back and forth, whoever finishes with tempo and urgency will win. 44 seconds to play, USA leads by 12.

NO TIME TO SHOW WEAKNESS! Kevin Durant finishes the game out with an emphatic jam.

Final Score: 95-81… USA WINS!!!
