
The USA indoor volleyball team had a strong showing against China. The USA indoor volleyball team took it to the defending champs. China now falls to 0-2 as they have not won a set yet.
Set 1
It was back and forth early on in set one as the United States got out to 6-4 lead. China countered with great defensive play. The US remained stout as the score became tied at 14 and 16. China was forced to take a timeout after the Americans jumped out to a 19-16 lead. They responded and roared back to tie the set again at 19. A crazy rally finished off by the United States to make it set point. China tied it up forcing extra points and warranted a timeout from head man Karch Kiray.
China got a quick strike and created a set point opportunity. Jordan Thompson punched China right back, then China did the same. Thompson got another kill to tie the inaugural set at 26 and take the lead at 27 as she began to heat up. China stayed alive and once again tied it at 27. Jordan Larson got the US another set point and Jordan Thompson finished things off 29-27.
Set 2
Set 2 began like set 1 did. Back and forth in a 3-3 tie. China had a little more pep in their step and took an 8-5 lead. It was more of the same as the score became 20-17. After what seemed like forever, the US got another set point opportunity. China battled back, but it was Thompson again as the USA won the set 25-22.
Set 3
Stop me if you’ve heard this before, the set was tied early. As the reigning champs, a lot of pressure is on China to do well even though team USA is a gold medal favorite. The set had the feel of a heavy weight fight as the they traded points. Team USA tried to distance themselves as they took a 20-18 lead and force a timeout from the Chinese. Team USA rode the momentum which led to a match point situation and the win 25-21.
