The Minnesota Vikings desperately needed to acquire a new quarterback with Kirk Cousins out for the year. At a reasonable price, the Arizona Cardinals agreed to a deal that would net the Vikings in landing Josh Dobbs. NFL Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissoro reported.
Dobbs has started all eight games for the Cardinals this season, with Kyler Murray out. He’s done a decent job with what he’s been given to surround him. He completed 62.8 percent of his attempts for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions.
According to ESPN NFL Insider, the deal includes a late-round pick-swap: Arizona is sending a conditional 2024 7th-round pick (that could move to a 6th-round pick) for a 2024 6th-round pick.
Dobbs won’t be perfect, but he should be able to fill the hole left by Cousins’ season-ending injury which occurred in the second half of the 24-10 victory over Green Bay. The trade is a low-risk move for the Vikings as they now have a new QB in Josh Dobbs and they’ll likely only be moving back 10-15 slots in the draft on Day 3. At 4-4, the Vikings still have a shot at the wide-open No. 7 seed in the NFC.
