Real Madrid has been given a huge boost ahead of the new year with the news that Vinicius Jr and Eduardo Camavinga have recovered from their injuries. Vinicius is expected to return for the game against Mallorca on January 3rd, while Camavinga needs a little more time to fully recover.

Vinicius and Camavinga are only two of five players that are expected to return for Madrid ahead of their Supercopa de Espana semi-final clash with neighbors Atletico Madrid on January 10th. The others are Ferland Mendy, Dani Carvajal and the Turkish wonderkid, Arda Güler.

This is a major boost for Carlo Ancelotti and his team. Especially after David Alaba went down against Villarreal a couple of weeks ago with Madrid’s third ACL injury of the season.

Center-Back Crisis

With Nacho the recipient of a straight red card in Madrid’s last match against Alaves, Ancelotti also has defensive headaches to manage. Aurélien Tchouameni partnered Antonio Rudiger in the center-back position for the remainder of the game and came in for high praise from his coach.

“Tchouaméni? He will get angry for this but he’s amazing as CB,” Ancelotti said after the game, adding “he is lucky he can play as midfielder and as defender.” Ancelotti also said that Tchouameni has all the qualities to be a top center-back.

Tchouameni’s best position is in midfield. He has played there his entire career and has been influential for both club and country since his professional debut. However, it’s always nice to have versatile players who can help the team whenever needed.

The Frenchman will likely start alongside Rudiger in defense for the upcoming match against Mallorca in the new year.

Reports suggest that Madrid are scouting the center-back market for potential signings in the January transfer window. Some of the names mentioned are Zenit Saint Petersburg’s Robert Renan, Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio, as well as S.L Benfica’s Antonio Silva and Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini.

It’s unknown whether Madrid will sign a player on loan or a permanent deal, but they will likely try to bring a body in due to the injury crisis that the team has suffered. Especially in the center-back position.
