Today, San Diego Studios announced Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as their cover athlete for the upcoming MLB The Show 24. The Blue Jays star now joins players like Shohei Ohtani and Fernando Tatis Jr. as MLB The Show cover athletes. Last year’s cover athlete was Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the Marlins.

Guerrero has become one of the most powerful hitters in the MLB, and he’s only 24 years old. He’s been an All-Star in three straight seasons with the Blue Jays. Guerrero was also the co-champion of the home run derby in 2021. He also won the home run derby outright last season.

MLB The Show introduced Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as the cover athlete by traveling to his home country the Dominican Republic. They shot a special documentary in the Dominican Republic to reveal the cover art.

Vlad Jr. now continues to follow in his father (Vladimir Guerrero Sr.) footsteps. Hall of Famer Vlad Sr. and Vlad Jr. are now the first father-son duo to become cover athletes for MLB’s games. Vlad Sr. graced the cover in 2006. Vlad Sr. came off his MVP season in 2004 for the Los Angeles Angels. He then went on to become an MLB cover athlete two years later. Surprisingly, this isn’t the only honor that the two share. They became the first father-son duo to each win a Home-Run Derby.

In the last four seasons combined, the former Silver Slugger and Gold Glove winner has missed just nine games, and he was voted MVP in both 2021 and 2022. Guerrero has recorded 706 hits, 130 home runs, 404 RBI, and a 15.2 WAR since making his Major League Baseball debut in 2019. Over the course of his career, Guerrero has hit .279 with an OPS of .844.

Guerrero joins previous AL MVP Josh Donaldson as he was the first Blue Jays player to appear on The Show’s cover, having done so in 2016.

MLB The Show 24, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the cover, will be available for Playstation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch.
