Today, Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina made history. With 324 starts together dating back to April 6, 2007. The 324 starts ties a record held by Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan, who played together in Detroit, 1963-1975. Wainwright, Molina. Iconic.

Careers Together

Besides the 324 starts, this duo has accomplished dream careers together in St. Louis. Both have had Hall of Fame worthy careers for the Cardinals. Capped off by winning a World Series together in 2006. (Wainwright sat out 2011 due to Tommy John surgery.)

Yadier Molina

Molina has been one of the best catchers in the history of Major League Baseball. Even in his last season this year, he is still producing for his team.

Yadier Molina career accomplishments are absolutely insane:

  • 10x All-Star
  • 9x Gold Glove
  • 4x Platinum Glove
  • 2x World Series Champion
  • 1x Silver Slugger

Wow, I am almost speechless. Not only has he accumulated out of this world stats. He has done it while being the heart and soul of this Cardinals team for close to 2 decades. Bringing that heart and pride to the field every time out.

I will always remember him for daring runners to steal second, throwing them out by 3 steps then walking to the dugout staring them down like a WWE wrestler during a promo.

Yadier Molina career slash line. .278/.328/.399 with an OPS of .727 and a WAR of 42.1.

Adam Wainwright

Good ol’ Uncle Charlie, Wainwright has been one of the most competitive pitchers since coming into the league. He is never afraid on the mound, he will challenge any batter and live with the result.

Wainwright career accomplishments include:

  • 3x All-Star
  • 2x Gold Glove
  • 2006 World Series
  • 1x Silver Slugger

Adam Wainwright’s impact has reached far wider for this franchise than the accomplishments would have you believe. He has been the ace in St. Louis for 18 seasons, reliably going out there every 5 days and giving them a chance to win.

I am sure most baseball fans would agree with me, Wainwright would be in my rotation for the all-time 2010’s team.

To this point Wainwright pitched in 452 games, starting 385 of them. Pitching 2,543+ innings accumulating 2,136 strike outs, 194 wins, 3 saves and a WAR of 47.4.

Wainwright, Molina. 18 Seasons Together

These two have been a tandem in St. Louis and will be forever connected. For not only the special careers they have had individually and together. Also for the bond they have formed, “Waino and Molina” stories will be shared for the rest of time.

As they play their last season together, each game gets more emotional for fans. Add in Hall of Fame definite Albert Pujols‘ farewell tour, the 2022 Cardinals are in the middle of something special. I’m not crying, you’re crying!

Baseball fans across the world will have an eye on this team as much as possible this last month of the regular season and into their playoff run.

The next time Adam Wainwright takes the mound, in a week or so, Molina will be behind the plate. The duo will officially break the record for most starts together with 325.

Albert Pujols is also chasing his own milestones, being 5 home runs away from 700!
