The Washington Football Team’s season is over. With their 20-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday, they’re out of the playoff hunt.
Washington was up 16-7 at the Half and never scored again. The Eagles would go on to score 13 unanswered points in the Second Half. The Football Team had what looked like a game-winning drive. WFT QB Taylor Heinicke went 55 yards in 11 plays in the Fourth. With 1:50 left, he threw an interception, ending what looked like a good game-winning drive. Heinicke finished the game with 247 yards passing and one interception.
Washington did better than expected
This was the Washington Football Team’s Season in 2021. It’s a story of not playing all four quarters, injuries, high emotion, and Covid. To add insult to injury fans almost fell on Eagles QB Jalen Hurts thanks to a broken FedEx Field railing. Speaking to media after the game WFT Head Coach Ron Rivera said, “The guys fought, they played hard, and gave themselves a chance at the end. That’s all you can ask for.” He added, “I liked what we were doing on Offense and Defense. Unfortunately, there were a couple of plays that we didn’t make, a couple of plays we allowed to happen, and that’s really the difference.”
He also gave an update on Washington Football Team TE Ricky Seals-Jones, who was carried off the field Sunday after colliding with a cameraman. According to Rivera, he’s stable.
The Washington Football Team’s Season will end with many questions
There’s no telling what Rivera is thinking when it comes to the everchanging Washington QB situation. Ryan Fitzpatrick was supposed to be the guy but suffered a hip injury in the season-opener. Heinicke showed sparks of improvement throughout the season. He also showed he needed a few more seasons under his belt before returning to a starting QB position for any team. Then again, Washington gives a lot of chances to their QBs, so no one knows for sure. What about the RB situation? Will Antonio Gibson bounce back from his reported hip injury? Will there be changes at the Defensive Coordinator position? Only time will tell.
In the meantime, Washington will get ready for their final game of the season against the New York Giants on Jan. 9.
