Former Washington State Quarterback Cam Ward has declared for the NFL Draft. Ward announced his decision Monday in a short video posted on his social media accounts.
“What’s up it’s Cam Ward, and I’ll be declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft,” Ward said in the video.
Ward entered the transfer portal on Dec. 1 originally, which came after he was reportedly offered multiple $1 million NIL deals to transfer. He was one of the most highly coveted quarterbacks in the portal and was pursued most notably by Miami and Florida State. When entering the transfer portal, Ward did note that he was still evaluating his options of possibly declaring for the draft.
Cam Ward began his college career at FCS Incarnate Word. In his first full season as the starter in 2021, Ward threw for 4,648 yards, 47 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Following that season, he decided to transfer to Washington State.
Ward started all 13 games with Washington State in his first season with the team. He threw for 3,232 yards, 23 touchdowns, and nine interceptions as the team went 7-6 that year. Ward progressed nicely this season, throwing for 3,736 yards with 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in 12 games. He also had eight rushing touchdowns.
Ward’s 323 pass completions in 2023 were the second-most in the Pac-12 and fourth-most in the NCAA. He completed 66.6% of his passes this past season, which was a step up from the previous year, and was good enough for the fifth highest in the Pac-12.
Ward will not sign with an agent right away, according to his father, Calvin Ward. By doing this, Ward still has the option to change his mind and use his final year of college eligibility. Ward has until Jan. 15 to file the NFL paperwork, which would make him eligible for the draft.
