It’s Conference Championship weekend and Texas is looking to make a statement. The Texas Longhorns have been ranked as the second best one loss team behind the Oregon Ducks, but they’re looking to prove why they can win the National Championship. With Oregon losing in the PAC-12 Championship on Friday, the Longhorns should bump up.
The Longhorns have racked up some crucial wins this season. The most notable one coming against Alabama. That win will prove to be crucial when discussing whether or not Texas or Alabama should be in the CFP. That is if both when their Conference Championships. Texas is hitting their stride heading into the playoffs, with their last win coming against Texas Tech, who they beat by nearly 50 points.
The wide receiver group is lethal, AD Mitchell and Xavier Worthy are two stars at the position. Losing Jonathan Brooks, who has become one of the best running backs in all of college football, hurts. However, CJ Baxter and backup RB Jaydon Blue have filled the gap.
Quinn Ewers has been at the top of his game this season. He hasn’t had a single game under 137 passer rating, since returning from injury. Texas will need Ewers to step up down the stretch, like he did in Tuscaloosa if they want a shot at the National Championship. They won’t get to avenge the loss against Oklahoma, but they’ll be facing Oklahoma State in the Big 12 championship.
Time Stamps:
0:04 – Crucial Wins
0:18 – Key Players
0:32 – Can Ewers step up again?
0:47 – Big 12 Championship
