Fantasy Football is an unpredictable beast. That is why it is so enticing. If you want to skip all the semantics then just read this. If all my week 2 boom or bust players were listed as busts I would have been 100% spot on.
Week 2 Boom or Bust Results
Justin Herbert (Boom) – Mike Williams did what he was supposed to do. I assumed that would couple with Justin Herbert doing his top 12 QB thang too. With Herbert coming in strong at QB21 means…

Miles Sanders (Boom) – I mentioned his 66% snap count in week 1 as a good sign. Well, in week 2 he had a consistent 67%. Yet, his touches did not translate with 14. Now he is a player that can make 10 work wonders for himself. Alas, this was not one of those weeks. I had him as a top 12 RB last week. I would have to say RB37 is in the opposite direction. Wrong.
Tee Higgins (Boom) – He outperformed Chase which is what I was thinking. I was also thinking they would both be a WR2 fantasy football option last week. With shocking consistency, Higgins finished week 2 as he did week 1, as the WR30. Therefore, I was wrong.
Jonnu Smith (Boom) – Neither of the New England TEs did much at all. I’m gonna lay off the New England players in regards to this article for a little while. Dead wrong.
Tyrod Taylor (Bust) – His early game-ending injury puts a damper on things. I don’t like saying I was right for that reason but that is a heavy part of the game. Right.
James Robinson (Bust) – His snap percentage was slightly up but he has not exceeded 15 touches yet. I said outside of the top 24. He improved over week 1 but still finished as RB32. Right.
Corey Davis (Bust) – Looks like I was being too generous saying he would have a hard time cracking into the top 30. Finishing at WR96 is rough. Right.
Austin Hooper (Bust) – I believe what we saw last week was what we can expect from Hooper. Outside of the few weeks, he gets a TD, 5 receptions for 40-55 yards is what he will be. With 5 catches and 40 yards, he finished at TE17. Mark another bust down as right.
The final verdict for my week 2 boom or bust candidates is 4/8.
Week 3 Boom Candidates
New York Giants QB, Daniel Jones vs ATL
As of this now, Sunday morning, Daniel Jones will be having his entire complement of weapons. I know the moment trust is bestowed up Jones he has the innate ability to flounder it away. A common phrase I have used through my boom or bust articles, points look to be plentiful. What will really make Daniel Jones able to break into that starter tier is if Jason Garret will plan some QB runs. He is deceptively fast. Not quick, but he is fast. Against the Atlanta Falcons, he will be a top 12 QB this week.
Baltimore Ravens RB, Ty’Son Williams @ DET
This year’s UDFA fantasy football darling has an amazing opportunity this week. The Detroit Lions are allowing the most fantasy points to RBs, 35.1 per game, in this young season. No matter the situation, Baltimore has their run game deeply woven in. Even with the committee that is very present in Baltimore, Ty’Son is consistently getting 50% of the snaps. He has been in the top 20 both weeks. With this being a boom pick I firmly feel he will be in the top 15 RBs this week.
Denver Broncos WR, Courtland Sutton vs NYJ
Since coming into the league Courtland Sutton has had high expectations placed on him. Even with less than preferred QB situation, in 2019 he showed he can live up to the lofty praise he had received. Of course, 2020 was lost so quickly and with the drafting of Jerry Jeudy, it seems Sutton is just a lingering afterthought. He is the #1 man now for Teddy Bridgewater. The Jets defense, I feel, is not as good against the pass as numbers would have you assume. It’s not going to be a thrilling game but, Sutton will take the reigns here. I see him as an upper-tier WR2 this week.
Atlanta Falcons TE, Kyle Pitts @ NYG
Coming into his third week for one of the most highly anticipated TEs ever and Kyle Pitts is currently the TE9. The old adage for tight ends is it takes them years to really show fantasy production. The statistics are behind this. However, I am just calling this game and, for this game, He is going to be fire. I don’t know why I hate myself so much by placing myself in these TE situations but, I see Pitts as a top 6 TE this week.
Week 3 Bust Candidates
Tennessee Titans QB, Ryan Tannehill vs IND
I clearly have an unhealthy relationship with Ryan Tannehill’s QB value. He may be my most owned player in fantasy football (mostly dynasty leagues) but, my weekly back and forward I have with his production could be considered “unhealthy” by professionals. Strutting into week 3 already coming in as QB24 the previous 2 weeks, QB26 overall, makes my choice here easier. He may best his QB24 moniker this week but for single QB leagues a top 12 performance is not in the cards
Atlanta Falcons RB, Mike Davis @ NYG
For full transparency, I have not liked Mike Davis in Atlanta as their RB1 since the signing. The emergence of Cordell Patterson…hold on…the predictable reappearance of Cordell Patterson only amplifies my initial distaste. Mike Davis is a PPR back. As proven with 6 targets week 1 and 7 in week 2. This brings his floor up a bit but for this week he is nothing more than a low-end flex play. To place a gradable number on it, RB 26-36 is his range for me.
Philadelphia Eagles WR, DeVonta Smith @ DAL
This has nothing to do with DeVonta Smith. He is their best weapon in that wide receiver group. This has everything to do with Trevon Diggs. The second-year 2nd round pick for the Cowboys has been pitted up against Mike Evans and Keenan Allen so far this season. Evans that week was WR80 and Allen, a consistent PPR machine, was WR33 that week. These are two budding stars in the NFL and I look forward to watching them develop a rivalry within the NFC East. For this week though, I think DeVonta Smith is a soft WR3 option.
Denver Broncos TE, Noah Fant vs NYJ
Once again, the torturing myself with my TE picks continues. Noah Fant is possibly the best weapon the Broncos have now. His versatility is why I give him that distinction. Maybe it is because I have a gut feeling about Courtland Sutton that I feel Fant will not do his thing. I know reading this from an unestablished fantasy football writer gives you no confidence in not playing Noah Fant. Let’s be honest though if you have Fant you are playing him. Unless you are in an 8 team league Logan Thomas or Dallas Goedert are available, or in a dynasty and you have stacked TEs over the years. In those cases, I personally would be deviating from him this week. I don’t have him in my Top 12 TEs this week.
