WFT Rematch With the Cowboys

Two weeks ago, the Washington Football Team lost to the Cowboys in their home stadium. This week they travel to Dallas for round two on Sunday Night Football. It was a close game and divisional games are always tough. The Cowboys snapped the WFT’s four-game winning streak two weeks ago, and now the WFT looks to abrupt the Cowboys playoff seeding. They have already clinched the playoffs, and hold the 2-seed. A loss for the Cowboys would drop them to 3 or 4 when they are fighting for the 1-seed.

The Football Team is a gritty team who almost pulled off the victory the first time around, so it is not beyond reason to expect a competitive game from the WFT. But it will also be more challenging for the WFT this time because it is a road game. After missing last week’s game against the Eagles, WFT QB Taylor Heinicke returns for redemption against the Cowboys. The WFT was hit with a big Covid outbreak which forced their game last week to be postponed from Sunday to Tuesday.

The odds are not in Washington’s favor. They are ten point underdogs, playing in Dallas, and have already lost once to the Cowboys. It was a close loss, however, losing 27-20. The WFT knows what they need to do in order to beat the Cowboys. A lot of what caused them to lose that game was poor play by Taylor Heinicke who completed 11/25 passes for 122 yards. Heinicke is capable of playing much better, although the Cowboys boast a stout defense that is hard to score on. If Heinicke can find his groove, and the WFT can establish the running game with Antonio Gibson, then they might pull off the upset.

The WFT defense needs to find a way to stop Dak Prescott, and force the Cowboys to run the ball more. It’s easier said than done, but it can be done. The Cowboys offense has been quite slow as of late, but their defense is winning them games. Washington still has a lot to play for this season. Their playoff hopes are low, but they are alive nonetheless. They also are still playing for a winning record. Right now their record is 6-8, so they need to win out to have a winning record, and potentially sneak in as a wildcard. The game is at 8:20 p.m. EST this Sunday. Don’t write off the Washington Football Team just yet. They are a deadly team who has a lot to play for.
