The 2023 NBA Draft Lottery is vastly approaching and is probably the most anticipated one yet. Teams have tanked the whole season just to get the number one overall pick. All because of one man, the golden boy from France Victor Wembanyama. Most experts consider him the best prospect since Lebron James. A lot to live up to but considering his height and unique skill set, it’s hard not to get giddy about having your hands on this generational talent. I will break down which teams are good fits for Victor Wembanyama and how they deserve a player like him after years of mediocrity.

Houston Rockets

With the second-best odds in the lottery, the Rockets are one of the youngest teams in the NBA. They have drafted notable top prospects the couple of years ever since the James Harden fiasco a couple of years ago. Landing top three picks Jalen Green and Jabari Smith look to be the foundational pieces through this short rebuild. However, the recent hire of Ime Udoka signals that the team is looking to be back in contention sooner than expected. Rumors swirling that Harden is serious about a potential reunion. He and Wembanyama can become the dynamic duo that finally gets them a championship to H-Town.

Portland Trail Blazers

It’s no secret the Blazers are the prime example of mediocrity. Despite an impressive playoff streak from 2014-2021, they’ve only made the conference finals once. Every year we hear trade rumors about Damian Lillard leaving to join a super team in pursuit of a championship. It’s becoming more clear that Portland won’t be able to give him that opportunity. However, adding Wembanyama could change everything. The pick-and-roll action with him and Dame would be a dangerous combo for opposing teams. It would also improve their interior defense tremendously given his size and wingspan. Having a core of Wembanyama, Anfernee Simons and Shadeon Sharpe extends their championship window much longer and be the solution to getting Dame the ring he deserves.

Charlotte Hornets

Ever since their inception, the Hornets have been the laughingstock of the NBA. Only making the playoffs twice ever since they came back in 2004. Despite having Lamelo Ball, Terry Rozier, and Miles Bridges. Their poor defensive rotations and constant coaching turnover led them to be eliminated from the play-in tournament the past few seasons. They are far from any kind of championship contention. The idea of Wembanyama coming to Charlotte would generate similar hype to Lebron to Cleveland. A poverty franchise desperately looking for its savior. He and Lamelo would be a fun duo to watch for the next decade and could find themselves back in the play-in. It definitely help out the new owner as he will receive a major boost in team revenue by selling more tickets and increasing jersey sales. No team deserves this more than the Hornets faithful.
