Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will start his much-awaited ‘darkness retreat’ this Monday and a retirement decision is expected to follow. Rodgers has spoken openly about this retreat into isolation as something he needs to do to clear his mind and consequently come to a decision. Rodgers has said before on “The Pat McAfee Show” that all options are on the table including retirement, a trade, or returning to the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers in turn are respecting the process Rodgers wants to put himself through, at least so far. Packers President Mark Murphy has iterated such although he stated he prefers an answer sooner than later. As for what the decision ultimately is, the Packers are willing to work with Rodgers regardless. They’ve express interest in bringing him back as well as working with Rodgers to send him elsewhere. Be that as it may, according to reports, there are already inquiring teams.
Could he return?
If the star QB does decide to return, he has listed a number of players he’d like to see back in green and yellow. He’s listed Allen Lazard, Marcedes Lewis, and David Bakhtiari amongst others. With the Packers being short on cap as is, it’s led many to believe Rodgers will request a trade. With that, comes the complications of restructuring Rodgers’ contract for cap purposes. No matter the resolution or how ridiculous it may seem, Aaron Rodgers’ darkness retreat will undoubtedly be a massive domino to fall in the NFL offseason.
