Free food is a thing of beauty. Especially, when there’s a deal between your favorite restaurants and your favorite teams. In fact, I used to have a Free Food Play of the day as part of an old podcast I did. It’s rewarding to a fan base to see the team win and you score a deal afterward. In Detroit, Wingstop is offering Five Free Boneless Wings when the Pistons win. There’s only one problem with that:

The Pistons haven’t won a game since before Halloween. Clearly, they have been on a struggle bus this season. No matter what they try, it just hasn’t worked out. It’s the longest losing streak in franchise history. They’re now on the same list with the 1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers, 1993-94 Dallas Mavericks, 2020-21 Houston Rockets, 1995-96 Vancouver Grizzlies, 1997-98 Denver Nuggets, 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats, 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers and the 2010-11 Cleveland Cavaliers.

It’s not like the Pistons are purposefully tanking either, they have no reason to. Not really any big names in the 2023-24 NBA Draft as of now. There’s no clear No. 1 player or even a clear top 5 for the draft. Nor do they even need a top 5 pick. They’ve had several of those throughout the past several seasons. They have the talent to be a solid team with guys like Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey, etc.

When the Pistons do get that elusive win, all the fans might just want to order some Wingstop because by the looks of it, there won’t be many wins this season. The history shows that a team that starts out this bad, stays bad. At this point, it’s nearing the longest losing streak in NBA history (26 single-season, 28 longest combined). The path won’t get any easier either. The Pistons have a tough schedule ahead with games against Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Atlanta and Utah (who ain’t much better), Brooklyn and Boston. The Pistons sport one of the leagues worst defenses and have no identity as a team, something that I mentioned they needed to find in the offseason.
