Carlos Rodón Is Heading To New York.
Carlos Rodón and The New York Yankees are in agreement on a $162M deal for six years. This deal’s AAV comes to $27M a year. Carlos Rodón was one one the last big name starting pitchers on the market, and it was only a matter of time before a team became the highest bidder for him. And to no one’s surprise, the Yankees had the highest bid.
Carlos Rodón is coming off a very solid 2022 season with the Giants. In this past season, Rodón had a 2.88 ERA with a 1.028 WHIP with a career high 237 strikeouts. Rodón also led the league in FIP with 2.25 and SO/9 with 12.0.
The Injuries Are the Main Concern.
The Yankees made it clear that they were looking for a starting pitcher. And after signing Aaron Judge to his historically high contract, the front office knew that they needed to get a strong arm in the rotation. The Yankees didn’t hide their interest in Carlos Rodón, either. Since the beginning of the offseason, rumors of the Yankees being in on Rodón were flying. And after a lot of the big starting pitchers like Justin Verlander and Jacob DeGrom went off the market, it was only a matter of time before the Yankees got him.
The main concern with Carlos Rodón are the injuries. In 2019, he had Tommy John surgery and was out until 2020. However, since then he has been nothing short of stellar. Rodón opted out of his contract with the Giants in hopes to land a big deal. And he was smart to do so, as the Bronx is his new home. If he is able to play up to his expectations and rise above the injury concerns, then this Yankees rotation may be even more lethal.
