The 120th World Series will take place between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, beginning on Friday.
Before discussing the Fall Classic, let’s quickly go over the American and National League Championship Series.
The Yankees make it to their 41st World Series by defeating the Cleveland Guardians in five games. While the series was decided by fewer games than the NLCS, this series was much more entertaining. Two of the five games went to extra innings, with both teams winning an extra-inning matchup.
Game 3 was the most entertaining in the series. Trailing by two with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, rookie Jhonkensy Noel blasted a game-tying two-run home run. David Fry followed that up with a two-run shot to win the game in the 10th inning. Game 3 would be the only win for the Guardians, as their World Series drought will last at least another year.
Giancarlo Stanton, who won the ALCS MVP, knocked all four of his base hits out of the park. He drove in seven runners during the five-game set.
While Stanton won MVP of the series, Juan Soto also performed well for the Bronx Bombers. He blasted three home runs, including a game-winning knock in the 10th inning of Game 5 to send the Yankees to the World Series.
With the win, New York is making its first World Series in 15 years — tied for the longest drought between two World Series appearances in franchise history.
On the other hand, the Dodgers are making their 22nd appearance in the Fall Classic and first since the 2020 COVID-19-shortened season.
Los Angeles beat the New York Mets in six games in the NLCS. Every single game of the series was decided by four or more runs.
First-year Dodger Tommy Edman won the NLCS MVP by batting over .400 and driving in 11 runs. He torched his only home run of the series in Game 6, which helped lead Los Angeles to the series win.
Max Muncy also played a huge role in the series win for the Dodgers. He reached base 12 consecutive times — a postseason record. The streak began during his second at-bat of Game 2 against the Mets and ended in the eighth inning of Game 4.
Those performances, as well as from other members of the Dodgers’ lineup, helped lead the team to an exciting World Series matchup against New York.
This is the ideal World Series matchup for MLB. Teams in the two largest markets with the largest fan bases batting for the Fall Classic. It doesn’t get any better than this.
The Yankees and Dodgers have one of the strongest and most historical rivalries between teams not in the same league. It will be the 12th World Series matchup between the pair — the most in MLB history — and the first battle in the Fall Classic since 1981. New York has won eight of the 11 matchups.
Assuming Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are named MVP, it’ll only be the seventh time since 1969 that both winners from the same year face in the World Series.
The teams are full of star power. The series should be one to remember for a long time. My prediction is the Fall Classic will last at least six games, with the big bats thriving with the world watching.
Game 1 will take place at 8:08 Eastern Time at Dodger Stadium.
