It’s one thing to lose and accept defeat quietly. It’s another to continuously embarrass yourself on social media because you can’t accept the fact that you lost. That’s what San Francisco 49ers players are doing right now.
Players from the 49ers roster continue to shame the Philadelphia Eagles due to their loss in the NFC Championship game. The Eagles defeated the 49ers on Sunday, Jan. 29, by a score of 31-7, advancing them to Super Bowl LVII.
49ers players were quick to take their frustration to social media, beginning with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
Aiyuk, admittedly knowing he has not much room to talk, claimed that the Eagles defense will ‘get exposed’ by the Kansas City Chiefs pass game in the Super Bowl.
“Look at me, I’m sitting on the couch, I have no room to talk about anybody playing next week. But like I said, I got Chiefs. I don’t know fully about that defense. I don’t know. They talk about them being a good defense, I’m not too sure,” said Aiyuk.
“I think the pass game, this Kansas City pass game will expose what we thought we were gonna be able to expose before some unfortunate circumstances happened.”
This ‘unfortunate circumstance’ Aiyuk is speaking of happened when Eagles’ Haason Reddick had a strip-sack on 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Purdy injured his throwing elbow on the play and was forced out of the game.
Despite Purdy’s injury, the 49ers still played with all of their top weapons, and the Eagles defense allowed just 7 points to their offense, as well as allowing only one catch for 10 yards to Aiyuk.
Although the 49ers’ wide receiver could have stopped there, he didn’t.
Furthermore, Aiyuk stated, “If I were to bet on this game, I would take everything I own, get it in cash, and put my money on the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Along with Aiyuk, 49ers defensive back Jimmie Ward spoke on the loss via Instagram live.
“When I catch DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown, when I move back to safety…let me…let me just wait before I talk that talk, I ain’t gonna say too much on here…but when I do…somebody gotta pay. Hopefully both of em’ gotta pay.”
Ward simply implies that he plans to target Smith and Brown the next time they play each other.
It comes off as quite embarrassing when you feel the need to threaten other players because your team lost.
Correspondingly, 49ers kicker Robbie Gould decided to join in on the I’m-going-to-embarrass-myself takes.
“If you make Jalen Hurts play quarterback, you’re probably gonna have a pretty solid day on defense.
Here, Gould implies that if you take away Eagles’ Jalen Hurts’ ability to run the football, a defense will have no problem stopping him.
Sadly for Gould, that’s not the case. Hurts, prior to this season, was criticized by many about his deep-ball ability. On throws 25+ yards downfield this season, Hurts ranks first in touchdowns (10) and first in passer rating (123.4).
Conclusively, the 49ers players continue to make fools of themselves because they have yet to accept the fact that their season ended early, and, moreover, the Eagles were simply a better team. Sportsmanship shows in times of loss, and evidently, it seems that the 49ers lack it.
