The Philadelphia Eagles dominated an injury-riddled San Francisco 49ers to capture the NFC Championship and advance to the Super Bowl.
Eagles Defense Dominates
Once again, the Eagles newest additions to the defense disrupted the 49ers offense in the NFC Championship. Linebacker Haason Reddick dominated with two sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Reddick completely wrecked the first half, and his presence was felt as the 49ers had no answer for the Pro Bowl pass rusher. In the Super Bowl, Reddick will look to be a game wrecker once again as he’ll match up against an easier offensive line than he did against San Francisco.
Injuries End the 49ers Season Again
On the game’s first drive, rookie quarterback Brock Purdy injured his throwing elbow and wouldn’t look the same as the passing game was compromised. In his place, quarterback Josh Johnson took snaps under center but would be ruled out due to being placed in the concussion protocol on a hit in the third quarter. Purdy came back into the game but would only complete two passes to finish the game as the 49ers kept the ball in the hands of running back Christian McCaffrey. With few options to move the ball downfield, the Eagles took over the game and cruised to a 31-7 victory.
Eagles Are Back in the Super Bowl
Since their 2017 Super Bowl Championship, the Eagles have fired their head coach and drafted a new quarterback. Even with the number of changes, second-year head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts have led a talented veteran team to the Super Bowl. With this being the first year as the Eagles are contenders, they haven’t disappointed as they’ll be favored to win the big game in the coming years.
