A lot of teams have been looking for a running back this morning. Monday was a busy day that saw all of the top running backs signed. That’s a good sign for the running back market after it dropped last offseason. On Monday, the Green Bay Packers signed Josh Jacobs. Which led to Aaron Jones being released, now he signed with the Minnesota Vikings according to to Dianna Russini.
When healthy, Jones is arguably one of the best running backs in the game. He’s a good pass catcher and an even better force on the ground. Jones generated 1,100-plus scrimmage yards and seven-plus scrimmage TDs in four straight seasons from 2019-2022. Some hamstring issues in 2023 broke that streak.
Injuries have always been seen as an issue with running backs as they get older. That’s partially why the running back market dropped last season. Down the stretch though, he proved he could still be valuable as he blazed through defenses, generating five straight games with 100-plus yards rushing.
For several years, the Vikings had been set at running back with Dalvin Cook. That ended last season though as he signed elsewhere. Now, the Vikings will have Aaron Jones as he immediately becomes their RB1. He joins a running back room with Ty Chandler, Kene Nwangwu, Myles Gaskin and DeWayne McBride. They could also re-sign Cam Akers.
Having a dual-threat playmaker in Kevin O’Connell‘s system will be enticing. Especially, if the Vikings stick with Darnold at QB.
