In Apple TV’s newest upcoming documentary about the Patriots dynasty, former Patriot Danny Amendola dropped a bombshell quote in the trailer. In the quote, Amendola credits Brady for the Patriots’ success or at least it appears that way.
After the 2019 season, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady split ways, ending arguably the greatest dynasty in NFL history. This caused a highly controversial debate about who was the most important person of the “Patriot Way”.
Brady or Belichick Debate
When Brady left the Patriots in 2020, he shocked the whole league by joining a new team instead of retiring. However, word got out that Belichick wanted to move off him and didn’t even offer him a contract. Which led to blaming Belichick for getting rid of the prodigal son of New England, not once but twice.
Brady ended up winning the Super Bowl the very next year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This added more fuel to the fire by showing that Brady was able to duplicate a winning culture for a team that had no winning experience for the past 20 years. This now sets a timer on Belichick to at least make the playoffs.
However, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Belichick once Brady left. He has posted a 29-38 record since 2020 and only made the playoffs one time. Unfortunately, that’s not all because ever since Brady left the Patriots’ offense has been average at best. Now, he’s on his way out of New England.
Many people can have their own opinions on whoever was the main guy for helping create and continue the dynasty for 20 years. However, Amendola was a huge part of the offense for Brady from 2013-2017 helping win two Super Bowl Championships.
Danny Amendola could very well be crediting Brady for the dynasty but I believe we should give them both credit. Belichick is one of the greatest defensive minds of all time and the Patriots always had a great defense year after year. For Tom Brady well he’s the greatest quarterback of all time.
A team can only win when you have a group that can have everyone buy in and play for the name on the front of the jersey and not the back. The Patriots dynasty is the definition of how to win and keep winning year after year.
