Over the past few years, Apple has been increasing its involvement in the Sports industry. They are now streaming sports, they have the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. The list goes on. Apple has made a name for themselves and now they are launching an app of their own.
The new app will give iPhone users access to real-time scores, stats, and more.
“We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services. “Apple Sports is available for free in the App Store, and makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favorite teams and leagues.”
The new Sports app will create a personalized experience for Sports fans. Putting their favorite leagues and teams front and center, while also having an easy-to-use interface. As of now, it’ll keep sports fans up to date on the following:
- MLS
- NBA
- NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s)
- NHL
- Bundesliga
- LaLiga
- Liga MX
- Ligue 1
- Premier League
- Serie A
Additionally, they will add MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA for their upcoming seasons.
Much like the apps that Sports fans already use such as ESPN, The Score and Bleacher Report… the new Apple app will provide fans with play-by-play information, team stats, lineup details, and live betting odds. It’ll also provide a one-click location that fans can use to watch games live. The big difference is that the new Apple App will allow fans to get the scores faster and more fluently.
Both Sports Media and Technology are continuing to evolve and one of the ways that Apple can stay at the top of both is to create their own app. One way that Apple could make it easier for fans is if the app takes up less storage than other apps. There already is one flaw with the new app, however, that’s that it doesn’t include sports like Tennis or Motor Sports. I’m sure that they’ll add more to the app as it gets some downloads.
