Arsenal looks to be in a huge summer rebuild this transfer window. As they have targeted and signed players that they believe could help them propel them in champions league qualification. Although it looked promising, it comes after enduring an awful year that left them in 8th place and out of Europe for the first time. Head Coach Mikel Arteta had identified some areas that needed to be worked on. Although this is a sign of promise, there is still a concern for Arsenal fans. They desperately want the team back to where it belongs.
Who have they signed so far
Arteta’s main concern was the defensive region with Arsenal conceding 39 goals, but most of those goals came from defensive errors or set pieces. Fans had been crying out for a world-class center back and it looks like they’ve got their man. Brighton and English defender Ben White is about to complete his 50 million pound move and help sort out that shocking defensive line. Nuno Tavares was also signed for 8 million pounds from Portuguese club Benfica. His signing was to provide competition for starting left-back Kieran Tierney. The last signing the Gunners made was Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht for about 17.5 million pounds. He looks to be the replacement for Granit Xhaka who looks to be leaving to go to AS Roma.
Who are they targeting
Another spot that Arsenal want to get a signing on is an attacking midfielder after Martin Odegaard had left to return to Real Madrid after his loan spell. Their targets are Lyon Midfielder Houssem Aouar, Leicester City’s James Maddison, and Lille midfielder Renato Sanches. The main target that has been talked about and who they are going for is James Maddison. Talks have been rumored that Arsenal will be paying 55 million pounds plus a potential player. Fans would believe that this would be a huge statement for the club as they would finally find their attacking midfielder that would finally replace Mesut Ozil. He left the club in January to go to his home country of turkey.
Although The Gunners think that this was a good window. They will need to add more strength towards their defense or will the fans be satisfied enough with their transfer business. Some fans will be happy with the business, but fans need to think that this isn’t enough strength towards their defense and that one more defender is key.
