It all started on Saturday, Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues. Colorado’s Nazem Kadri collided with Blues goalie Jordan Binnington, and after that, chaos broke through. Kadri has since received death threats and tons of nasty messages on social media from disgusting fans.

Blues forwards David Perron and Pavel Buchnevich weren’t too pleased about Kadri’s collision with Binnington. As a result, they decided to play dirty by brutally attacking Kadri. It’s sad to see these professional hockey players behave that way on the ice. After Game 3, he decided to make a hat trick, and he dedicated it to “those who hate, that was for them.” Later, stated by the NHL that Perron had been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking Colorado’s Nazem Kadri.

Many believe that Kadri accidentally collided with Binnington while others seem to think it was intentional. Whatever the case may be, it is unacceptable for anyone to receive racist messages and death threats.

Fans Stand with Naz

On Thursday, the Colorado Avalanche fans welcomed Kadri with thoughtful words in Game 5. Signs reading “Stand with Naz” were brought by many fans, and one said, “This one’s for those who hate. Avs Faithful will ALWAYS have your back. Stand with Naz.” Additionally, the Avalanche tweeted, “Let love be louder than hate,” along with more photos of fans with signs in support of Kadri.

Conclusion

There is no room for racism in any community that should be allowed. The upsetting messages don’t set a good example for the young ones who hope to become professional athletes. No matter how much you may despise a player or anyone for the matter, it’s disrespectful and disgusting to send racist messages.

Moreover, if we want hockey to be for everyone, we need to be kind and remember that words hurt. Please think before you hit send or post.
