On Saturday night, LeBron James continued to make history when he became the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 points. A few days before that history was made, Barstool’s Marty Mush stated that people take LeBron for granted.
“I think people do take him for granted for how great he’s actually been for this long.”
In many ways, he has a point. Sure, he’s not officially 40 years old yet, but what other player has been this good for this long? That’s a rhetorical question. Nobody has. It’s time for everyone to respect LeBron for the greatness that he has given us for 20+ years. That number will likely continue to grow as well. At least until he teams with his son, Bronny James and they become the first father-son duo in NBA history.
For the majority of his career, LeBron has continued to prove doubters wrong. As he continues creating his legacy, the closer the GOAT debate between Michael Jordan and LeBron James becomes. It’s going to be hard for any player to touch the legacy that he’ll leave behind. It’s time that people realize that. Only seven players — LeBron, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387), Karl Malone (36,928), Kobe Bryant (33,643), Jordan (32,292), Dirk Nowitzki (31,560) and Wilt Chamberlain (31,419) — had ever reached the NBA’s 30,000-point club. LeBron James is the only player in NBA history to reach 40,000 and no other active player is remotely close as of now. Kevin Durant would be the closest, but he’s 12,000 points away.
I’ll admit it for years, I have been a LeBron doubter but Saturday night he proved his legacy. I now agree with Marty Mush, LeBron doesn’t deserve the hate. That hate has been surrounding LeBron’s name for far too long. He deserves his flowers and it’s time that all the doubters acknowledge him as the King.
