Despite Bayern Munich winning the Bundesliga with one of the most insane endings in league history, their management board still has to undergo a revamp. This campaign has been the most underwhelming performance in the past decade. They had a decent start under Julian Nagelsmann, but a mid-season saga saw a meltdown with eliminations from the German Cup and Champions League in shocking fashion. The German record champion released the news that they will sack their CEO Oliver Kahn and Sports Director Hasan Salihamidžić with immediate effect.
In the season-ending matchup against Cologne, only Hasan Salihamidžić appeared at the stadium. Oliver Kahn, on the other hand, said that he was forbidden from coming to support the team.
“My plan was to come to Köln and then of course celebrate title with the squad, but I was forbidden,”
Kahn became CEO in 2021, while Brazzo took the position in 2017. The duo enjoyed two seasons together, but Bayern only managed little success outside of the Bundesliga. Hasan Salihamidžić was the man behind the development of Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala but was often criticized for his conservative approaches to transfers.
Jan-Christian Dreesen will be the successor for the former legendary goalkeeper as the CEO. Dreesen has worked at Bayern as a CFO. During his tenure in the position, the club has enjoyed tremendous financial stability and success. Meanwhile, the Sports Director vacancy is yet to be filled.
Other Changes
Regarding the other significant figures, President Hainer said he is confident in Thomas Tuchel, and the German coach will continue his position next year. After all, Tuchel had little to no preparation and familiarity with the team at his arrival. However, he will need to make better adjustments as Bayern looked like a shell of their former selves in the second half of the season. For the players, Sadio Mane is expected to stay, while Daley Blind and Joao Cancelo are on the way out. Wonderboy Jamal Musiala will be the first in line for a long-term contract, the 20-year-old scored the league-clinching goal for Bayern. Bayern will also look to spend big money on a new striker: Dusan Vlahovic, Victor Osimhen, and Randal Kolo Muani are their main targets.
It will be a total revolution at the Allianz Arena. They will look to come back stronger after a disappointing finish to the season, with new personnel at the realm.
