Frank Reich and the Carolina Panthers sent shockwaves through the NFL this afternoon after making the biggest move of the 2023 offseason to date. The Chicago Bears are trading the first overall pick in the NFL draft to the Panthers in exchange for a bundle of picks and WR D.J. Moore.

The details of the haul include picks number nine and 61 this year, a first-round pick in 2024, and a second-round pick in 2025. In addition, the inclusion of DJ Moore is key as the Bears attempt to surround Justin Fields with enough talent to succeed. Moore finished last season with 63 receptions for 888 yards and seven touchdowns. One can expect the Bears and GM Ryan Poles to continue to build their offense as the offseason progresses but for right now, this is an excellent start.

Meanwhile, all eyes will be on the Panthers as the draft continues to draw near. It’s obvious that there is someone they like enough to mortgage their future like this, the question is who? Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and Anthony Richardson have been trending upward so far this offseason and are very likely candidates. So far, the team has been very tightlipped on what they’re planning, and very minimal reports had the Bears trading the coveted first pick to them. It very well could be a guessing game for the foreseeable future.

TL//DR: Bears and Panthers agree to trade

More to come.
