The Red Sox capped off a sweep of the Detroit Tigers in today’s 4-1 win. However, the sweep ended on a sour note after new Boston slugger, Adam Duvall, exited the game after injuring his wrist on a diving play. It’s unsure at this time the seriousness of the injury as the Red Sox staff is waiting for the results of the x-rays. This is the same wrist that Duvall injured last season, forcing him to miss the second half of last season. In the meantime, Bobby Dalbec is heading to Tampa Bay from Worcester for the upcoming series due the suspected loss of Duvall.

Adam Duvall has already made a great first impression on Red Sox fans in his first eight games in Boston. In this short time, he has crushed four home runs, has 14 runs batted in, and collected a total of 10 extra base-hits, setting a new franchise record in that time. Duvall, over his eight games, is batting .455/.514/1.030. Yes, that’s right, a slugging percentage over one thousand.

While maybe not sustainable over the course of the season, it’s still nice to have a power bat in the lineup. Especially going into a series against the undefeated Tampa Bay Rays, who are 9-0 after today’s win. This sweep of the Tigers has put the Red Sox over .500 on the season, raising their record to 5-4. Having a strong series against Tampa will be crucial in keeping their head above water in the AL East.

Bobby Dalbec is Heading to Tampa Bay from Worcester

The uncertainty of Adam Duvall’s injury is scary, given he has missed significant time already last year due to the same wrist. It’s safe to say he will be missing some time, regardless of the x-ray results. Therefore, Red Sox righty bat Bobby Dalbec is heading down to Tampa from AAA Worcester to possibly take over for Duvall. Dalbec has been playing shortstop in AAA since the beginning of the season. By coming to Tampa for this upcoming series, it could mean Kiké Hernandez may be moving to CF for the meantime, with Dalbec taking over at shortstop.
